      A "Green Island" will appear in Arzamas — one of the largest children's playgrounds in the city. Its area will be about three thousand square meters. The large-scale work is possible thanks to the governor's participatory budgeting program "You Decide!". Community officers helped include the project in the program and collect signatures from residents.

      Community officer Ivan Zinovyev noted that the program allows people to choose the territories and facilities that they really need and emphasized the importance of residents' opinions. He added that he was glad to go through all the stages together and make the city more beautiful and comfortable.

      According to Alexey Gavrilov, deputy director of the Department of Territorial Development of the Arzamas Urban District, "Green Island" will consist of two zones: a recreational area with greenery and a children's playground. It will be located on Mira Street, near building 19/6, in one of Arzamas's most densely populated districts (4th microdistrict).

      "There's a school nearby, so children will be able to stop here on their way home and relax," the official added.

      According to Mayor Alexander Shchelokov, it is especially important to create a new recreational space here to relieve the already existing "Miragorodok" playground and continue the neighborhood's development after the improvement of the FOKOT on the school grounds.

      Work is being carried out in stages. The contractor has already leveled the site, laid a sand-and-gravel base, asphalted the area and installed impact-absorbing safety surfacing. Paving-stone pedestrian paths and curbs have also been added. Children's play and sports complexes have been installed on the vacant lot. A bicycle parking area and small architectural forms will be installed here in the near future.

      A relaxation area with park swings, benches and landscaping is planned: an avenue of trees will be planted and three flower beds created. An important part will be the installation of modern lighting and a video surveillance system to enhance safety.

      In total, creating the new attraction point for children and adults will cost about 20 million rubles (part of the funds were allocated under "You Decide!", the rest are municipal funds). The playground is expected to open in November 2025.

      Local resident Zinaida Yemelyanova said that the project is of great significance for townspeople. According to her, the contractor completed the work on time, and now families have a place to spend time with their children.

      It should be added that the new playground is expected to become not only a recreational area but also a venue for cultural and mass events.

      Background:

      In 2025, within the "You Decide!" project, 19 initiatives totaling 97 million rubles are being implemented in Arzamas, most of which are funded from the regional budget.
