Nizhny Novgorod specialists are working on creating a test system that will allow predicting the long-term consequences of small-fragment wounds. This was reported on his Telegram channel by the editor-in-chief of the medical publication "Stacionar-press", Alexey Nikonov.

According to him, the research began a year ago. It involves surgeons from the Semashko NOCB, as well as scientists from PIMU and NGTU named after Alekseev.

Doctors and scientists note that even small and lightweight fragments of munitions left in the body can cause serious complications. Negative effects do not appear immediately but emerge 3–6 months after the injury.

Among the most common delayed consequences, specialists name neuropathies and arterial and venous thromboses. Medics emphasize that the number of such cases is growing, which means the need for diagnostic tools is becoming increasingly acute.

Researchers are now moving from theory to practice: at the Research Institute of Experimental Oncology and Biomedical Technologies a test system is being developed to predict the long-term consequences of injuries caused by small fragments.

It was previously reported that scientists are testing human skin analogues in Nizhny Novgorod.
