Nizhny Novgorod Region has joined the All-Russian environmental cleanup “Green Russia.” It is taking place in the country from September 6 to 27, 2025 in accordance with the goals and objectives of the national project “Environmental Well‑Being.” The cleanup was launched in Moscow on September 6. In our region, events of the All‑Russian cleanup will be held on September 12 in Balakhna. They are being organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, involving volunteers and residents of the municipality. In Balakhna, the area of Sovetskaya Square, between the Zoo and the Volga embankment, along the Netecha River, will be tidied up. The cleanup starts at 10:00. Anyone can join “Green Russia” — families, work teams, schoolchildren, students and representatives of organizations.
“Green Russia” is one of the largest events in the field of ecology and public space improvement. The campaign is held on the initiative of the All‑Russian Environmental Public Movement “Green Russia” with the support of government bodies, local authorities, public associations and volunteer organizations.
Traditionally, within the framework of the campaign, public spaces are cleaned and improved, green plantings are tended, trees and shrubs are planted, and waste is collected and removed. Last year, more than 400 environmental cleanups took place across the country, with over 17,000 participants. Thanks to this, more than 630 cubic meters of waste were collected, territories of parks, squares, educational institutions and memorial complexes were improved, and new green plantings were planted.

As the organizers noted, the All‑Russian environmental cleanup “Green Russia” is intended to raise ecological awareness and foster a responsible attitude toward the environment.
Recall that from 2025, by order of President Vladimir Putin, the national project “Environmental Well‑Being” began to operate in Russia, carrying out the tasks previously provided for in the national project “Ecology.” The new national project envisages care for the environment and increasing its comfort for people’s lives. Work will be carried out in several directions at once: creating infrastructure for waste sorting and recycling, eliminating landfills and cleaning water bodies, conserving forests, reducing atmospheric emissions, as well as developing eco‑tourism and preserving rare animal species.
The national project includes six federal projects: “General Cleanup,” “Water of Russia,” “Conservation of Biological Diversity and Development of Ecotourism,” “Forest Conservation,” “Circular Economy,” and “Clean Air.”
