Nizhny Novgorod Oblast has joined the All‑Russian ecological cleanup “Green Russia” (0+), which is taking place across the country from September 6 to 27, 2025, in accordance with the goals and objectives of the national project “Environmental Well‑being,” the regional government press service reports.
The cleanup was launched in Moscow on September 6. In our region, the All‑Russian cleanup events will take place on September 12 in Balakhna. They are being organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, with the involvement of volunteers and local residents. In Balakhna the area of Sovetskaya Square, between the Zoo and the Volga embankment, along the Netecha River, will be tidied up. The cleanup will begin at 10:00. Anyone can join “Green Russia” — families, work collectives, schoolchildren, students and representatives of organizations.
“Green Russia” is one of the largest events in the field of ecology and improvement. The campaign is held on the initiative of the All‑Russian ecological public movement “Green Russia” with the support of government authorities, local self‑government, public associations and volunteer organizations.
Traditionally, as part of the campaign, public spaces are cleaned and improved, green plantings are tended, trees and shrubs are planted, and waste is collected and removed. Last year more than 400 ecological cleanups were held across the country, with over 17,000 participants. As a result, more than 630 cubic meters of waste were collected, territories of parks, squares, educational institutions and memorial complexes were improved, and new green plantings were established.

Organizers noted that the All‑Russian ecological cleanup “Green Russia” is intended to raise ecological culture and foster a responsible attitude toward the environment.
Recall that beginning in 2025, by order of President Vladimir Putin, the national project “Environmental Well‑being” began to operate in Russia, carrying out tasks previously provided for in the national project “Ecology.” The new national project envisages care for the environment and increasing its comfort for people’s lives. Work will be carried out in several areas at once: creating infrastructure for sorting and recycling waste, eliminating landfills and clearing water bodies, conserving forests, reducing emissions into the atmosphere, as well as developing ecological tourism and preserving rare animal species.
The national project includes six federal projects: “General Cleanup,” “Water of Russia,” “Conservation of Biodiversity and Development of Ecological Tourism,” “Forest Conservation,” “Circular Economy,” and “Clean Air.”
