The Moscow Art Theatre School-Studio (MKhAT, Moscow) and the OMK-Participation charitable foundation announced the start of a long-term partnership. With the support of the United Metallurgical Company, the foundation formed an endowment of 30 million rubles to develop the educational institution. The funds will be used to implement students' creative projects and to expand the repertoire.
In addition, over the course of the year touring performances and master classes for theatre studio students will take place in Vyksa (Nizhny Novgorod region), where OMK's largest enterprise is located. In the autumn, drama teachers from Vyksa and Chusovoy (Perm Krai) will undertake a week-long intensive course in Moscow. The program includes acting classes, modern methods of working with young people, and experience-sharing with the School-Studio's instructors.
Starting in October, a separate educational program for 14–17-year-olds from Vyksa will begin. For six months MKhAT teachers will train them in acting, stage speech, and movement. Once every two months the youngsters will travel to Moscow to attend part of the classes together with the School-Studio students. By the end of the course they will have completed the first-semester curriculum of the acting faculty.
The start of the partnership was announced at the ceremonial opening of the academic year. Irina Sedykh, chair of the board of trustees of the OMK-Participation foundation, presented a certificate to the rector of the School-Studio, Igor Zolotovitsky, confirming the addition to the endowment fund.
Irina Sedykh emphasized that theatre has always been not only an art but also an important cultural force. In her words, in the modern world it is theatre that helps preserve humanity and genuine emotions, and the cooperation with the Moscow Art Theatre School-Studio will be a contribution to the development of theatrical art in the country.
