New school classes have begun studying metrology in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      New classes of schoolchildren have begun studying the science of metrology in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Thematic lessons have been held in educational institutions of Nizhny Novgorod since 2024, including in Kstovo District, as well as in Dzerzhinsk and the Diveyevo district. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Education and Science.

      On September 5, a ceremonial opening of the new specialized pre-professional metrology classes was held at Ankudinovskaya Secondary School. The event was organized by the Nizhny Novgorod Center for Standardization, Metrology and Testing and the regional Ministry of Education and Science as part of the federal project "Metrological Educational Cluster of Rosstandart."

      Representatives of the ministry, the Nizhny Novgorod Institute for the Development of Education, municipal authorities, educational institutions and the industrial partner — LLC "Infrastructure TK" (Kstovo) — took part in the ceremony.

      Students of the new specialized class recited the Young Metrologist's oath and performed the metrology anthem. The children were also given commemorative badges.

      Specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod CSM and the partner organization held an interactive session for the pupils called "Playful Experiments." In an engaging format, the children learned the concepts of "acidic" and "neutral" using various drinks as examples and learned about the difference between beneficial and harmful products. A lesson for fifth graders titled "Metrology: From Antiquity to the Present Day" was organized, dedicated to the history of the science of measurement. Tenth graders, in turn, were told about the basic units of measurement.

      "The profession of a metrologist, built on critical thinking, logic and the ability to test hypotheses in practice, is multifaceted and fascinating. Early career guidance in this direction lays the foundation for training the highly qualified specialists of the future. Moreover, a feature of Ankudinovskaya School is a built system of seamless education, where acquaintance with the basics of metrology begins at the kindergarten level. This approach allows us to develop interest in the exact sciences and engineering specialties from an early age, ensuring continuity of knowledge at all stages of education," said the head of the Nizhny Novgorod CSM, Alexey Aizenberg.

      In 2025, the Nizhny Novgorod schools where metrology classes were previously launched were given the status of innovation platforms of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute for the Development of Education. Over the next four years, the development and piloting of regulatory and methodological support for career guidance activities will be carried out on the basis of these institutions using the example of metrology classes. The result of this work will be the creation of a comprehensive package of documents for implementing career guidance activities in educational institutions across the country, including regulatory documents, diagnostic materials, methodological recommendations and a bank of effective tools and practices.

      "The Nizhny Novgorod Institute for the Development of Education provides organizational and methodological support for the activities of specialized classes in the region. Our metrology cluster is a vivid example of successful cooperation between an educational organization and industrial and academic partners. The practice of this work has been repeatedly presented at scientific and practical conferences and at the August regional forum. This year the Institute opened innovation platforms designed to consolidate the cluster's practices and subsequently replicate this valuable experience in other educational organizations in the region. We are confident that the experience of our specialists will be useful to all teachers organizing work in the field of career guidance," said NIRO Rector Elena Okunkova.

      The curriculum of the metrology classes will include theoretical and practical lessons aimed at mastering basic engineering knowledge. Lessons will be conducted by schoolteachers as well as representatives of academic and industrial partner organizations: lecturers from Nizhny Novgorod universities and technical colleges, staff from children's technology parks, employees of large industrial enterprises and representatives of the business community.

      "In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a comprehensive and effective system of professional navigation for students has been created. This is a unified career guidance model implemented by the majority of the region's educational organizations. We are purposefully building a continuous trajectory for students from grades 1 through 11 consisting of three key stages. The career guidance track allows pupils of all ages to get acquainted with the world of professions through extracurricular activities at schools together with our partners. Pre-specialization classes are already a stage of professional choice, where in-depth study of subjects and more conscious preparation begin. Specialized pre-professional classes, in turn, are the pinnacle of this system, where children can acquire their first profession even before finishing school," said the Minister of Education and Science of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Mikhail Puchkov.

      He emphasized that to date the region has already created more than a thousand such classes, over 200 of which have an engineering orientation. This is a valuable contribution to addressing the task of the new national project "Youth and Children" to prepare motivated and qualified personnel.

      The event concluded with the unveiling of a graffiti mural painted on the school wall as a gift from the project's industrial partner. The artwork, created by young specialists who were winners of the company's internal competition, symbolizes a creative and modern approach to the science of measurement.

      Recall that the national project "Youth and Children" is being implemented by order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin from 2025. It includes nine federal projects and programs: "Russia — the Land of Opportunity," "We Are Together," "Russia in the World," "All the Best for Children," "Leading Schools," "Teachers and Mentors," "Creating a Network of Modern Campuses," "Universities for a Generation of Leaders" and "Professionalitet."
