The Nizhny Novgorod Rosprirodnadzor, as part of the Federal project "General Cleanup," conducted an inspection of the Burnakovskaya lowland.

Interregional Directorate of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia, together with specialists from the FGBU "CLATI for the PFO", completed a comprehensive survey of the territory of the environmental impact site – Burnakovskaya Lowland. The site is located in the Sormovsky district of Nizhny Novgorod on several land plots divided by the Sormovskaya TPP’s outflow channel. Its total area exceeds 160,000 square meters. Historically, a significant part of this territory was designated for oil industry activities, including oil warehouses and oil separators.

During inspection of contour No. 1, which is adjacent to the Volga River and the outflow canal, oil sheen on the surface of the land along the shoreline was observed. An iridescent film of petroleum products was detected at the waterline on the land surface. No petroleum film was observed on the river surface in the coastal zone.

Inspection personnel collected soil samples from the contaminated area, natural water, and bottom sediments.

During the survey of contour No. 2, bordering a waste transfer station, as well as an industrial zone and the road on Kominterna Street, numerous waste accumulations were recorded (municipal solid waste, construction debris, contaminated soil, tires), along with evidence of tree clearing activities.

Rosprirodnadzor staff collected soil and waste samples. Geodetic work was conducted. Additionally, samples of atmospheric air were taken across the entire impact site and at the boundary of the nearest residential area.

The results of the comprehensive survey will be sent to the Federal Center for Analysis and Assessment of Technogenic Impact for further decision-making regarding this site.
