Nizhny Novgorod archaeologists discovered ancient Mari burial sites near the Vetluga River. These were their everyday objects used in the 11th and 12th centuries, as reported by "Kommersant-Privolzhye."
In the forests of Nizhny Novgorod, in the Krasnobakovsky district, archaeologists found ancient Mari graves. During recent research, four tombs were uncovered along with jewelry, clothing items, and household objects dating to the 11th–12th centuries.
Archaeologists believe that these finds indicate the significance of the area along the Vetluga River and its mouth for Mari culture in the Middle Ages. Among the discoveries were not only jewelry but also pieces of ancient clothing and various household items, shedding light on the lifestyle of the region's medieval inhabitants.
