On August 1, the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Yevgeny Lyulin, took part in the celebrations dedicated to the 122nd anniversary of the glorification of Saint Seraphim of Sarov as a saint. The celebratory events are held at the Holy Trinity Seraphimo-Diveevo Female Monastery in the village of Diveyevo.
“Every time I come to Diveyevo, I feel a spiritual uplift,” shared the chairman of the regional parliament. “Early in the morning, I specifically walked around the entire monastery, peeked into the tent town where thousands of pilgrims from across the country live. Bright faces, prayers on their lips. Everyone comes with their own pain and hope to Father Seraphim. Everyone will definitely leave home with joy in their hearts!”
According to Yevgeny Lyulin, the people of Nizhny Novgorod are very fortunate: “Visitors call us lucky because Nizhny Novgorod is just a short drive from Diveyevo. Many stay here for a week or longer. From other regions, even other countries! People come to Diveyevo of various backgrounds—ordinary citizens, politicians, scientists. Here, everyone is equal. It’s hard to convey how people meet the relics of Saint Seraphim of Sarov with reverence and awe when they are traditionally brought out of the Trinity Cathedral to celebrate the Divine Liturgy before them!”
“Saint Seraphim of Sarov performed many miracles and continues to do so. I know that in Rosatom, they believe that the country’s nuclear shield was created through his prayers. Just imagine: in a war-torn country, in four years, catching up with the Americans and creating nuclear weapons. Isn’t that a miracle?” stated the chairman of the Legislative Assembly. “I remember, back in 1991, when everything was collapsing around us, the relics of Saint Seraphim appeared, and a procession of crosses moved from Leningrad across the country to Diveyevo. From that moment, the revival of Orthodoxy and the entire country began. And today, as our country faces challenges, the prayerful help of Father Seraphim helps Russia endure and become stronger.”
According to the Nizhny Novgorod diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, this year, in two days, 11,000 pilgrims and visitors arrived in Diveyevo. During the Divine Liturgy held outdoors on August 1 in the square in front of the Transfiguration Cathedral of the monastery, 3,500 people participated.
