The Society In Nizhny Novgorod, a one-way traffic scheme was introduced on a section of Timiryazev Street— from Kulibina Street to Lyadova Square. This was reported by the "Center for Traffic Management" Municipal Customer Service.
The changes aim to increase the capacity of a major transport hub, including Gagarin Avenue, Timiryazev Street, Lyadova Square, and Oksky Exit. Specifically, turning onto Timiryazev Street from Oksky Exit and from Lyadova Square will be restricted.
According to specialists from the Center for Traffic Management (CTM), after implementing the new scheme, traffic from Oksky Exit toward Lyadova Square will be organized across three full lanes. This will reduce lane changes and decrease the likelihood of congestion caused by vehicles attempting to turn onto Timiryazev Street.
The center also noted that the new traffic setup will eliminate obstructions exiting Gagarin Avenue. Previously, at the intersection, difficulties often arose due to vehicles failing to complete maneuvers onto Timiryazev Street and stopping on the roadway.
Drivers needing to access Timiryazev Street are offered alternative routes. They can turn from Lyadova Square onto Belinsky Street, then choose one of the following options: Kulibina Street, Pushkina Street, Studenaya Street, Nevzorovykh Street, Tverskaya Street, or Lomonosova Street.
When exiting Timiryazev Street, a left turn onto Gagarin Avenue and a right turn onto Lyadova Square will be available. A total of three lanes will be organized on this section: the middle lane will be shared for both directions.
According to CTM, over the past few years, more than ten traffic accidents have occurred at this intersection. The implementation of the new scheme is expected to improve traffic safety, especially on the Oksky Exit segment, and reduce accidents.
To facilitate the changes, the Lyadova Square traffic light system will be upgraded by adapting its mode to the new scheme. Additionally, guiding islands will be installed on the roadway, and the traffic light operation modes at the intersections of Timiryazev Street with Pushkina and Kulibina Street, as well as Belinsky Street with Pushkina, will be adjusted.
For the convenience of drivers approaching the transport hub, informational billboards warning about the traffic organization changes will be installed.
Earlier reports suggested that obstacles for vehicles may be set up on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street to restrict unauthorized passage.
