In the Sovetsky district, a young schoolteacher became a victim of scammers after transferring her savings to fraudsters’ account following a message from a supposed acquaintance.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod, a 27-year-old resident filed a complaint about fraud. The woman explained that she received a message via messenger from her colleague asking to borrow money. Without suspecting any foul play, she transferred 12,600 rubles to the account specified. Later, it was revealed that her friend’s account had been hacked and the message was sent by scammers. Thus, the teacher became a victim of one of the common internet scams.
A criminal case has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — "Fraud." The maximum punishment under this article is up to five years in prison.
The police emphasize: when receiving a help request from acquaintances or relatives, it is necessary to verify the authenticity of the sender. It is recommended to contact the person through another method — call or message them on a different social network. You can also ask a question that only the genuine interlocutor would know the answer to.
Earlier, it was reported that an elderly resident of Nizhny Novgorod became a scam victim, losing over 14 million rubles.
