Nizhny Novgorod youth hockey club "Chaika" has begun preseason preparations. This was announced on the team's social media pages.
Earlier this week, the players underwent scheduled medical examinations, and now they have started training.
On July 18, the Nizhny Novgorod team held their first on-ice practice of the 2025/2026 season at their home arena – the Konovalenkov Sports Palace.
On July 26 and 28, "Chaika" will play exhibition matches against MHL "Dynamo", and on August 27, against "Torpedo-YHL". From August 14 to 18, they will participate in the "TNA Cup" in Kazan. Training camps will also continue.
It is worth noting that following personnel changes in the "Torpedo" organization, the youth team is now led by Aleksei Tomilov, who is a graduate of the Nizhny Novgorod hockey system.
Under his leadership, the following players will participate in preparations for the new season: Andrey Volkov, Anton Gavrilin, Arseniy Bessonov, Arseniy Kamarov, Arseniy Novikov, Artyom Kulyabin, Artyom Matyuk, Artur Kupis, Veniamin Ryabkin, Vladimir Vlasov, Vladimir Kozin, Vladimir Laptev, Vladislav Mishin, Daniil Semeikin, Dmitry Kurus’, Egor Anisimov, Egor Gritsenko, Egor Rybkin, Ivan Okorokov, Ivan Protasov, Ivan Tsarev, Ilya Kuznetsov, Kirill Shcherbakov, Klementiy Belyakov, Leonid Gavrilov, Makar Opolinsky, Mikhail Kazakov, Nikita Beresnev, Pavel Maslachenko, Severian Kapitonov, Sergey Volkov, Sergey Guriyev, Sergey Skvortsov, Stepan Gornov, Timur Semenov, Yaroslav Popov.
However, this is not yet the main roster for the start of the season, as many players are still on trial to earn a chance to play for the youth team. Additionally, some "Chaika" players will be undergoing preseason camps with the farm club and the main team.
The players of "Torpedo-Gorkiy" also began preparing for the upcoming season; they recently underwent thorough medical examinations as well. The main team will start preseason slightly later.
In the 2024/2025 season, "Chaika" won the bronze medals.
It was previously announced that "Torpedo" will start the new season on September 6 and will play against "Salavat Yulaev". The MHL match schedule has yet to be released.
