Society The Nizhny Novgorod region continues to record an increase in tick bite reports.
Since March 3, 2025, a total of 7,074 claims have been registered regarding tick bites, including 2,092 from children, reports the Rospotrebnadzor Department of Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Specialists note that the current level of reports exceeds the long-term average by 9%.
Emergency prophylaxis with anti-tick immunoglobulin has been administered to 1,195 people, including 1,143 children.
Laboratory analysis has examined 7,077 ticks, collected from both people and environmental objects. In 17.7% of cases, infectious agents were detected.
Tick-borne encephalitis virus was found in 0.3% of the examined ticks, Borrelia in 20%, Anaplasma in 2.6%, and Ehrlichia in 0.7%.
Vaccinations against tick-borne encephalitis have been received by 9,208 people, including 1,335 children.
Currently, three cases of tick-borne encephalitis have been confirmed, one of which occurred in the Varnavinsky district. The other cases were acquired outside the region—in Ivanovo Oblast and on the Altai. The victims did not seek medical help, and prophylaxis was not administered.
Additionally, 50 cases of tick-borne borreliosis (Lyme disease) have been registered, including three children.
Rospotrebnadzor reminds residents: to protect against ticks, wear closed clothing when visiting forests and green areas, use repellents, regularly examine yourself and pets, and avoid resting in areas with tall grass.
If a tick is found, you should immediately seek medical attention. The insect must be preserved for laboratory analysis—even if dead, it is important to keep its integrity and place it in a sealed container with a damp cotton.
Earlier, a biologist advised Nizhny Novgorod residents on which insects to be cautious of in the forests.
