Leader of the State Duma faction SRZP, Sergey Mironov, proposed tightening the procedures for migrant entry into Russia amid rising cases of meningococcal infection. He believes that foreigners should be placed in quarantine upon crossing the border to prevent the spread of the infection.
In an interview with the "360" channel, Mironov noted that the increase in meningitis cases is not only related to the decline in vaccination coverage among the population but also to the arrival of migrants who have not undergone immunization. He emphasized that attempts to identify and isolate foreigners already in the country are ineffective. A more effective measure, he said, is quarantine for all arrivals from regions with an unfavorable epidemiological situation.
Additionally, Mironov proposed introducing work visas for citizens of Central Asia, which they could only obtain with medical certificates confirming vaccinations and the absence of dangerous infections. He believes this will help protect the labor market and the health of Russian citizens.
Information about the rising number of meningococcal infection cases in Russia was disclosed at a meeting of the parliamentary health committee. Since the beginning of the year, 1,266 cases have been identified nationwide, 948 of which are adults. Vladimir Chupanov, an off-duty infectious disease specialist from the Ministry of Health, also noted that migrant workers could contribute to the spread of the infection.
