It is forbidden to bury deceased pets in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region has amended the regional Additional Requirements for keeping pets. The document was published on July 15 on the official legal acts portal.
The innovations concern the procedures for disposing of pet remains and stillborn fetuses. They must be carried out in accordance with the Veterinary Regulations, specifically by burning. All other methods—burying animals in the ground, dumping them at landfills, in trash bins, ravines, forests, fields, or water bodies, and others—are prohibited.
It is noted that the decree comes into force upon publication and applies to legal relations arising from March 1, 2025.
Earlier, it was reported that the Nizhny Novgorod government proposed introducing administrative responsibility for violations of pet keeping and walking rules.
