      Politics "For years, we have sounded the alarm about Hogweed of Sosnovskiy — not just a weed, but a real threat to people and nature. The owners of the plots where it grows should monitor its destruction. Our parliament has repeatedly appealed to federal colleagues, stating the need to adopt systematic measures of responsibility. And now, the issue has gained momentum. Today, the State Duma finally adopted a bill that, starting from March 1, 2026, will require all landowners to combat this plant. I consider this our common victory!", - wrote Evgeny Lyulin, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, on social media.

      "Finally, regions will have clear powers: to determine lists of invasive plants and methods of control. This will allow the Nizhny Novgorod region to act as effectively as possible. Anyone who thinks they can evade responsibility should know — action will be taken immediately. For non-compliance with prescriptions, fines will be imposed, and in extreme cases, plots may be confiscated. Special measures will be developed for protected areas to prevent aggressive plants from destroying unique ecosystems. This is critically important for our reserves, sanctuaries, and natural parks," emphasized the regional parliament speaker.

      "The new law is just a first step. The task for lawmakers is to ensure the practical implementation of this new document. I recommend municipalities, agricultural enterprises, and landowners to already conduct monitoring of their lands and organize chemical treatments. Each deputy from the district will personally oversee this issue. The fight against Hogweed has been going on for many years. Now, there is hope that the final victory will be ours!" concluded Evgeny Lyulin.
